■ LSIS participates in smart-grid expo with diverse photovoltaic solutions, featuring 14 application zones, the largest scale of its kind for a Korean company
■ Presenting local market-specific solar power solutions such as water surface and roof types
■ Building, factory, and home energy management systems and EES brand also attract viewers’ attention
Amid plunging international oil prices and corresponding sluggish global markets for new and renewable energy, LSIS is set to advance aggressively into the Japanese market ? which is reeling from the double whammy of sluggish solar business and low yen ? with smart-grid-linked solutions.
LSIS participated in International Smart Grid Expo 2015 held at Big Sight in Tokyo on January 25 ? 27. The expo was organized as part of the World Smart Energy Week (WSEW). The company showcased its local major photovoltaic solutions and their linked smart-grid solutions.
This year, the WSEW expo attracted some 1,500 corporations in power, energy, and power generation sectors from all over the world; in addition to the smart grid field, photovoltaic expo, eco-house expo, and international hydrogen and fuel cell expo were simultaneously held, making the WSEW expo the largest ever.
Until last year, LSIS had participated annually in the PV expo only, focusing on solar solutions; this year, it expanded its expo participation scope to the smart-grid expo, featuring a full lineup of green solutions from the production of eco-friendly energy to storage thereof to efficient use thereof in a bid to perform its business based on innovative, localized solutions. Furthermore, LSIS is poised to penetrate Japan’s photovoltaic market in conjunction with competitive Korean medium-sized firms.
LSIS set its exhibition concept as Smart Energy City, installed twelve booths (equivalent to 21.6 booths by Korean standard) as the largest scale for a Korean company, put up the slogan “LSIS’s smart city that communicates through power and realizes energy through co-work,” and featured 14 application zones in photovoltaic solution, smart-grid power solution, and energy optimization solution categories from power generation to transmission, transformation, and distribution to users. In other words, the company presented its smart-grid combined solutions and an array of future-oriented smart energy solutions.
First, the solar solution category featured market-specific solar systems such as water surface, industrial, high-efficiency, and roof-type systems. The smart-grid power solution category showcased photovoltaic system-linked or stand-alone smart technologies, including power transformation solutions (solar containers), energy-saving and drive solutions, power system solutions, intelligent management solutions, and high voltage direct current (HVDC) technology. The energy optimization solution category included user-specific technologies, such as BEMS (Building Energy Management System), FEMS (Factory EMS), and HEMS (Home EMS) and energy storage solutions.
Since the first nuclear power station accident in Fukushima, Japan had seen rapid growth in markets for photovoltaic power systems every year until recently when international oil prices have plunged and global investments in the development of new and renewable energy have shrunk, leading to the weakening of such growth. To make matters worse, as the low-yen sentiment has persisted, Korean exporters to Japan, especially solar power companies, are seeing their profitability decline and suffering accordingly.
“We continue to offer local market-specific photovoltaic solutions in various nations as well as smart solutions linked with existing power systems. Through this expo, we are pushing to advance into global markets further, coping with the double challenge of low yen and low oil price,” an LSIS official said.
