■ Signs the contract to supply hybrid 10,000 set-top boxes to Youngseo Broadcasting in Wonju
■ With a single set-top box, both signals of cable broadcasting and IPTV are received
Seoul, July 17, 2008 - LS Cable (CEO, Chayol Koo) commercializes smart VoD technology, enabling video on demand (VoD) service as well as real-time transmission of HD (high-definition) video with a coaxial cable for cable broadcasting, the first in Korea.
LS Cable recently signed the contract to supply 10,000 hybrid IP set-top boxes with which both the signals of cable broadcasting and IPTV can be received by adopting this smart VoD technology to Youngseo Broadcasting in Wonju.
The subscribers could be serviced IPTV and digital TV as well as cable broadcasting and internet from a single cable broadcasting company with this IP set-top box of LS Cable.
LS Cable applied network process chip filtering and managing harmful data on IP in real-time, the first in the world. The network safety problem which could occur when data and video are processed at the same time – which was pointed as the limitation of the existing set-top box – was solved while various value added services were enabled.
Applying the software, Downloadable Conditional Access System (D-CAS) for user authentication, cable broadcasting companies could reduce their cost since authentication could be simply enabled with the installation of D-CAS module without purchasing smart card or VoD card.
