■ The flexibility was greatly enhanced guaranteeing lifetime for 20 years. It is also eco-friendly.
■ It is a new growth engine of LS Cable with submarine power cable.
Seoul, July 22, 2008 - LS Cable (CEO: Koo Chayol) developed cables for wind turbine, the first in Korea. It is expected to substitute the imported ones in the local market and also to develop overseas market aggressively with these state-of-the-art cables.
Cable for wind turbine connects the generator and the tower, and delivers electricity generated by blades to a transformer. It needs high flexibility to prevent damage even after thousands of rotations of generator.
It proves the flexibility has greatly been enhanced, by successfully passing a test of 15,000 rotations without any problem meeting the requirements of wind farm of Europe, to endure more than 10,000 rotations for 20 years.
Moreover, it is also flame-retardant and eco-friendly with non-toxic feature that does not emit toxic materials even when on fire.
Cho Joon-Hyung, Executive Vice President of LS Cable, said that “LS Cable already secured the technical approvals from major wind turbine makers like Enercon India, and will speed up exporting our cables. Together with the submarine power cable to be produced from May 2009, the first in Korea, these cables for wind turbine will be the new growth engine of LS Cable.”
Besides the cables for wind power generation, LS Cable is equipped with a total solution for cables necessary from generation to transmission and distribution of wind power such as magnetic wires for generators, medium and low voltage cables and high-voltage ground cables and overhead transmission lines for power distribution.
In cooperation with LS Mtron, a subsidiary company, they also plan to develop marketing activities for ultra capacitors, a next-generation high-capacity energy storage used in operating the generator of Wind turbine.
