■ Signed $20 million (approx. KRW 24 billion) project for optical cable implementation 
■ Secured additional $22 million worth of projects 
■ Will design Vodafone Qatar’s private network and serve as implementation supplier for the next 10 years 

Seoul, Korea, January, 20th - LS Cable(Chairman & CEO: Christopher Koo) announced on the 20th that the company had been officially selected as a partner for Vodafone Qatar’s optical communication network implementation project and, as the first task of the project, received an order for a backbone optical cable network to be installed in downtown Doha to the scale of $18 million (approx. KRW 21 billion). In addition, LS Cable will be placed in charge of maintenance of the project that is equivalent to the scale of $2.5 million (approx. KRW 2.9 billion). 

The project consists of an optical cable backbone network connecting downtown Doha and Al Khor and a project to connect wireless communication network towers with optical cable. When implemented, Vodafone Qatar, which obtained a license as the second wired communication service provider in Qatar, will be able to provide customers with stable high-speed Internet services. LS Cable was selected as an official partner for this project due to the company’s expertise of having successfully completed the SI and major optical communications network implementation projects in Bangladesh and Indonesia, etc. 


With this achievement LS Cable has also been guaranteed additional projects to the scale of approx. $22 million (approx. KRW 26 billion). These include the implementation of the Metro Ring connecting the West Bay and Pearl areas, an artificial island, and network service provision to subscribers. In addition, LS Cable’s SI Business Team head Jin-Ho Jeong who handled the project explained that the company is involved in discussions to design and implement the nationwide optical communications network project that is being pursued by Vodafone Qatar at the moment. 

Executive Director Yeon-Su Kim of LS Cable’s Communications Business Division said, “LS Cable was selected as a partner for Vodafone Qatar because of our proven expertise in communications network technologies and success in implementing SI projects abroad.” He added, “Based on these achievements, we will actively embark upon entry into the Central, South and North American markets. 

Having won a contract for an open optical network project in Bangladesh in May last year, LS Cable is performing remarkably well in the overseas SI business centering on Asia and the Middle East. LS Cable is currently expanding the scope of its business into the Central and South American regions.
