■ Expands production lines to meet rising demand; to produce 100,000 units this year, 400,000 units next year
■ Expected to complete portfolio of industrial-home appliance products jointly with LS Power Semitech
LS Industrial Systems (LSIS) has taken a step closer to becoming a general maker of industrial power semiconductor modules, a core parts for energy saving and power conversion, by maximizing its production capacity of power semiconductor modules for industrial use.
Amid rising demand for industrial power semiconductor modules in recent years, LSIS has decided to significantly increase monthly production from 100,000 units this year to 400,000 units next year by increasing production lines in order to boost its production competitiveness.
Power semiconductors functions to save energy by converting and controlling power supplied to various industrial devices, and by operating electric motors in an efficient fashion. As a key component for power control, they are widely used in all different products that use power, ranging from IT gadgets to industrial tools.
Notably, these modules are indispensible to semiconductors for enhancing the function of inverters for renewable energy, including solar and wind power, and of power control units of electric vehicles. In tune with astronomical expansion the related market year after year, the power semiconductor market is projected to grow exponentially as well.
An LSIS official said, “With the latest expansion of our production capacity, we will reinforce our mass production system for industrial power semiconductor modules, and has more fully completed our product portfolio in this field in conjunction with home appliance power semiconductor modules produced by LS Power Semitech, which we established jointly with Infineon of Germany.” He added, “As power semiconductor market is expected to continue to grow an annual average of 8 percent, we will accelerate our advance into the market by boosting our production competitiveness.”
