■Wins 33 billion-won project to build GIS-power substation plant in Syria
■Signs contract with Syria power distribution authority, pledges cooperation for additional projects
LS Industrial Systems has won a large-scale project for a GIS power substation on a turnkey basis while stepping up its advance into the Middle Eastern and African power systems markets.
LSIS signed a contract with PEDEEE (Public Establishment for Distribution and Exploitation of Electric Energy) for the construction of a 72.5KV-class GIS (gas insulated switch gear) power substation at the Syrian capital, Damascus, on December 19 (local time). In attendance at the ceremony were more than 50 executives from the two companies, including Vice President Choe Jong-Wung, chief of LSIS’ power solution business headquarters, and President Emad Khamis of PEDEEE.
Accordingly, LSIS will construct more than ten GIS power substations in six locations, including Damascus, over the next 16 to 20 months under a deal worth KRW 33 billion.
LSIS will conduct the project on a turnkey basis encompassing EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction), and has thus secured recognition for its technology in the entire field of power systems.
An LSIS official said, “Since the conclusion of the bid last May, we have won recognition for our capacity in EPC turnkey projects for power substations, which are the central pillar of the company’s overseas power systems operations, through an assessment of technology and prices over the past five months,” adding, “The acquisition of the deal will signal the company’s advance into the Middle Eastern and African markets, on top of its contract to supply ultra-high voltage power transformers to the Sudanese power authority, and comprehensive cooperation with Energia of Egypt early this year.”
Additionally, LSIS and PEDEEE have decided to continue their cooperative relations in advancing into the Syrian power market in the future, as well as collaboration on this project.
