Seoul, Korea, November, 29th - LS Cable (Chairman & CEO Christopher Koo) and CT&T (President & CEO Yeong-Gi Lee) will conclude an MOU to co-develop an eco-friendly electric vehicle business.
With this agreement, LS Cable and CT&T will share technologies and product development expertise to create synergies for developing electric vehicle components. In addition, the companies will actively cooperate in developing high-quality electric vehicles so as to expand the distribution of electric vehicles, the traffic means of the future.
For this, the companies will promote:
▶ implementation of charging network infrastructures and joint development of smart grid technologies,
▶ development of quick/slow chargers and connectors for vehicles produced by CT&T and prepare the products for mass production,
▶ joint development of lightweight materials (aluminum cables, etc.) exclusively for electric vehicles,
▶ increased use of electric vehicles for business purposes by affiliates and partner companies for commercialization of electric vehicles at the early stage, and,
▶ strategic joint global marketing, etc.
An insider of one of the companies said, “By jointly developing lightweight materials exclusively for electric vehicles, we aim at realizing maximum efficiency of electric vehicles focusing on safety together with the battery technologies that are developing at an exponential rate.”
Following the successful implementation of Korea’s first high-speed electric vehicle charging stations for the Korea Environment Corporation in October, LS Cable additionally implemented the same infrastructure as part of the Jeju Smart Grid Complex. In addition, LS Cable is developing an electric vehicle charging system with Seoul Metro taking advantage of the robust urban railway power network and infrastructure.
The Ministry of Knowledge Economy has established a goal to have 10% of the domestic compact car market and 20% of the domestic passenger vehicle market to be represented by electric vehicles by 2015 and 2020 respectively. Accordingly, it is planned to distribute one million electric vehicles and 2.2 million chargers by 2020.
