■ Cheongju Plant wins silver prize in ‘Green Start’ contest for putting Green
Living campaigns into practice
■ Materializes eco-friendly Green Factory based on its own green business products
■ Company honored for role as Guardian of Green Earth, including systems for greenhouse gas reduction
LSIS was selected as an outstanding company during a contest for ‘Participation in Green Living Practice’, which was hosted by the Green Start Network held at the KINTEX exhibition center in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province on November 24.
The Green Start Network, the secretariat of a national network, was established with a view to cutting greenhouse gas emissions by encouraging the participation of all citizens and institutions at the national level, including companies, organizations and groups.
The Cheongju Plant complex was credited with having installed solar power systems at the main entrances to Plants 1 and 2, and constructing a system for controlling the lighting using power line telecommunication (PLT) systems, and with having set established Green Worksites through its own environmentally-friendly green business products.
Additionally, the company is conducting far-reaching activities to protect the environment, including the replacement of lights with high-efficiency LED lighting (more than 700), installation of power-saving lighting, prohibition of the use of disposable paper cups, and implementation of environment cleanup campaigns near the worksite.
Recently, the company calculated the volume of greenhouse gas produced at the plant, and built a greenhouse gas inventory designed to effectively manage the volume. In the process, it identified both the direct agents of greenhouse gas emission, including boilers, heating and cooling facilities, emergency power generators, welding, insulation and cooling agents, and the indirect factors, including the company’s general use of electricity, commuter busses, and air conditioner refrigerant.
Based on these efforts, the Cheongju plant succeeded in reducing the volume of power consumption and waste material production by nearly 20% compared to the previous year.
