- Will supply KRW 51 billion of flooring materials to Metroflor USA for 5 years
- Washable flocked carpet and eco-friendly rubber flooring popular in the North American market
- Will commence marketing activities in global markets and develop new applications
On the 27th, LS Cable (Chairman & CEO Christopher Koo) entered into a contract with Metroflor USA to supply flocked carpet and rubber flooring products worth KRW 51 billion for 5 years starting from 2011. The significance of this contract lies in the fact that it is the largest-scale U.S. market entry by a Korean company and that products developed purely with domestic technologies will be exported.
Flocked carpet is a premium commercial carpet tile characterized by its high-density structure of 80 million strands/m2, which is 10 times the density of general carpeting. The carpet is created using a flocking technique that has the nylon strands stand vertically with the effect of static electricity thus enabling a more compact structure. Since a product from the U.K. was introduced into the market in 2005, the entire demand for flocked carpets in Korea has been met by imports. In 2009, LS Cable succeeded in being the first Korean company to develop flocked carpets. The dense pattern not only prevents infiltration of pollutants and propagation of ticks and bacteria, but also allows better cleaning by water to eliminate hygiene-related problems associated with general carpets. In addition, each of the nylon strands stands vertically preventing the yarns from loosening, a common drawback of general carpets. Highly durable, flocked carpets are resilient and can be used for very long periods of time.
LS Cable’s rubber flooring is widely used for building interiors and is available in tile, stairway and roll forms. Special features include excellent durability, noise reduction (due to natural elasticity), outstanding stability for walking and zero toxic gas emission in case of fire. In particular, rubber flooring satisfies the strict standards of the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute that restrict toxic emission levels of formaldehyde and toluene which cause respiratory and skin diseases as well as migraine headaches. Ensuring a pleasant and healthy interior environment, LS Cable’s rubber flooring of outstanding quality has obtained the Eco Mark.
Vice president Choong-Je Jin of LS Cable’s Industrial Materials Division said, “This contract is proof that LS Cable’s flooring materials are being acknowledged for their quality in the global market.” He added, “LS Cable will actively march into not only global markets including Europe and China, but also diverse market applications, such as for railway cars, etc.”
Since entering the commercial flooring market in 1994 based on compound technology obtained from its experience with cable manufacturing, LS Cable has been supplying products for airports, passenger rail cars, ships and stadiums not only in Korea, but also in Asian countries including China, Taiwan and Singapore.
