■ The award acknowledges excellent management performance and distinguished service for innovation of an organization’s culture 
■ LS Cable positioned as global No. 3 according to business model innovation and high-end product development 

On September 29th, President Jong-Ho Son of LS Cable received the Korea Quality Management Award from the Korean Society for Quality Management at the Grand Intercontinental Seoul. 

The Korea Quality Management Award is presented to managers and executives who have contributed significantly to fulfilling corporate social responsibilities as well as to industrial development and quality management in Korea. According to the Korean Society for Quality Management, President Jong-Ho Son was honored with the award because of his contributions to helping LS Cable achieve quality innovation and outstanding management performance as a result of his excellent leadership and the employee development programs he initiated. In addition, President Son was highly evaluated for his ability to shape the company’s corporate culture by promoting a good environment for workers and also for helping the company grow into an enterprise that fulfills its social responsibilities through diverse social contribution activities. 

President Son made significant contributions to LS Cable which allowed the company to secure its position as the global No. 3 in its industry by innovating a business model centering on applications and solutions, assertively pursuing overseas markets and developing high-end products including submarine and superconducting cables.

To share his management vision and receive feedback from employees, President Son organized a new tradition at LS Cable now known as the monthly ‘Meeting with the CEO.’ In addition, by opening ‘Son’s Book Café’ so that managers may read up on the latest developments in the management profession, and initiating the ‘Imagination Island’ program to incorporate employees’ proposals into management, President Son has been striving to strengthen corporate competitiveness.

Furthermore, in order to establish the ‘quality first’ principle, President Son revitalized quality management by organizing and operating innovation promotion meetings, self-reflections for quality management, result sharing sessions, LS innovation meetings and caravan programs that tour work sites. At the same time, President Son participated in a variety of social contribution activities that included helping out orphans and elderly living alone, participating in college students’ overseas services and donating a portion of his monthly salary, as well as voluntary service, to assist local community projects. 

Upon receiving the award, President Son said, “This award was a result of the joint efforts dedicated by everyone at LS Cable to enhance the company’s management quality.” He added, “Through continuous effort, we will present to the world a ‘global No. 1 quality management’.” 

Founded in 1998, the Korea Quality Management Award was previously presented to Chairman Seok-chae Lee of KT (Spring, 2010), President Yeon-ju Jeong of Samsung Engineering (Spring, 2007), President Gang-shik Lee of STX Engine (Spring, 2007) and President Gi-tae Lee of Samsung Electronics (Spring, 2001), etc.
