■ Name changed to facilitate global market entry and to signify business model innovation

Seoul, Korea, March, 24 th - LS Cable (Chairman and CEO: Christopher Koo) decided to change its name to ‘LS Cable & System’ to better telegraph the company’s capability to offer complete system solutions so that the company will more easily enter global markets. The name change also signifies the company’s eagerness to engender business model innovation as a core strategy. However, the Korean version of the company name will remain the same. 

LS Cable announced on the 24th that the decision to change the company’s name from ‘LS Cable’ to ‘LS Cable & System’ was reached at the 3rd general stockholders’ meeting held inside the head office of LS Tower in Anyang on the 23rd. According to a company official, the name ‘LS Cable’ seemed to communicate that the company was limited to the cable industry only, and thus failed to convey the image of the company’s engagement in complete system solutions for a variety of applications, which the company pursues strategically.  

LS Cable is attempting to engage in business model innovation focused on customer-centered total solutions by migrating away from the conventional business model of simply selling individual products. Accordingly, LS Cable is strengthening its solution business competencies across a diversity of fields including power transmission, wind power, railways, ships, vehicles, airports, broadband network communication, ubiquitous city · intelligent building systems and solar power, etc. 

LS Cable explained that the name change further evidences the company’s will to become the global No. 1 not only in cables, but also in green business application and solution markets. LS Cable plans to have the new name known world-over by participating in overseas exhibitions and through global PR activities. 

At the general stockholders’ meeting, LS Cable also decided to add an energy audit service to the company’s array of business ventures. This aims at a full-on commencement of an energy engineering service for smart grid implementation using the company’s energy saving technologies and infrastructure.
