■ Contributing to securing heavy electric equipment industry competitiveness through the promotion of exports and the development of technology
■ Practicing the spirit of putting quality first; said to be outstandingly skilled in factory management
On September 11, LSIS Executive Kim Gi-hyeong (head of Cheongju Workplace 1) won the Industrial Service Medal at the electric industry meritorious service awards, which was held at the Exhibition Hall Grand Ball Room of KINTEX where SIEF was held.
Executive Kim led efforts for exports, secured advanced technology, and improved the balance of trade and technological levels in the domestic heavy electric industry. For these accomplishments, he was commended.
Kim joined LSIS in 1984. For the past 29 years since then, he has worked through various areas of design, production, quality, purchase and materials, thus accomplishing outstanding achievements.
Notably, he has inspired the spirit of putting quality first in all employees with a strong determination to secure excellent quality without compromise. He has rewarded employees for achievements of improvement, and is said to be outstandingly skilled in factory management.
Kim was named as the head of Cheongju Worksite 1 Factory for electric parts in 2008. He realized that the domestic electric parts market was saturated, and tapped into overseas export markets. With this, he endeavored to innovate R&D processes, to develop the ‘Susol Series’ and ‘Metasol Series,’ and to protect intellectual property rights, thus resolving technical barriers to allow the company to be a global player.
In particular, to improve quality, he established a new quality process that linked TS16949 to the existing quality information system, and continued to endeavor to secure product reliability. He secured 900 kinds of standards and certifications such as the CE mark and UL mark, earning recognition for quality in overseas markets.
Thus, he succeeded in developing smart grids, EV-Relay, green car chargers, and DC circuit breakers, therefore securing green energy technologies. He led efforts to establish sales subsidiaries and branches in some 80 countries including China (Shanghai), the UAE and Vietnam. He helped establish and run local production subsidiaries in Vietnam, Dalian, Wuxi and Yichang, subsequently exploring the “second domestic markets.”
Accordingly, LSIS expects to double its electric equipment exports from USD 120 million in 2008 to USD 230 million in 2012.
In addition, he led efforts to secure airport advancement technologies and to penetrate high-end markets, thus expanding the overseas markets for locally produced products and improving the nation’s balance of trade. For win-win cooperation with small and medium enterprises, he led efforts to adopt the ACE system, to purchase raw materials jointly, to conduct joint research, to expand settlement of payment in cash, to diagnose QMS and to set up the base for sharing production management information. He consequently made great contributions to improving partner firms’ productivity.
Furthermore, to create an open corporate culture, Kim attempted to activate employees’ communication, to develop diverse programs for establishing an open culture, to balance work and life and yet pursue development for employees in an effort for win-win management-labor relations. Therefore, for more than ten years, the worksite has experienced no labor disputes, thus achieving a management-union unity.
Executive Kim stated, “I wish to attribute this honorable prize to the efforts of all family members of LSIS. LSIS’ electric component products and services should focus on customer satisfaction to further innovate quality and to develop world-best products, and in this manner contribute to the development of the heavy electric industry. I will continue my efforts to that end.”
