LS Industrial Systems said it posted 347.5 billion won in sales, 46.4 billion won in operating profit, and 33.8 billion in ordinary net profit during this year’s second quarter. The company made the announcement at a corporate informational session held at the Korea Exchange in Yeouido, Seoul on July 30. 

The figures represent a 5.1 percent drop in sales, a 90.9% gain in operating profit, and a 44.4% hike in ordinary net profit from previous quarter. They also translate into an 8.4 percent fall in sales, a 2.9 percent increase in operating profit, and a 5.0 percent advance in ordinary net profit. 

On the surface, sales are seen to have dropped, but performance records through the first quarter include figures of LS Metal, which was spun off in April, while the records for the second quarter exclude LS Metal’s figures. Hence, sales significantly increased in reality as well. 

When comparing records excluding LS Metal’s figures, sales and operating profit gained 30%, and 77.8%, respectively, from the previous quarter, while sales gained 19.7 percent and operating profit increased 12.9 percent, respectively, year on year. 

A LSIS official said, “When including LS Metal’s Q2 performance (including 95.6 billion won in sales, 1.1 billion won in operating profit, 600 million won in ordinary net profit), LSIS’ performance represent a 21.1 percent hike in sales, a 95.5 percent gain in operating profit, and a 47.0 percent advance in ordinary net profit.

The official added, “The overall improvement in performance was made possible because Q2 saw a seasonal peak in the system business, and because power equipment and automation businesses made strides both in the domestic market and export,” adding that “The operating profit ratio increased to 13.4 percent, which represents a significant gain from 6.6 percent in the previous quarter, despite the burden of fixed cost resulting from investment in new businesses, including green business, and sales will likely expand in the new businesses beginning in the second half. As such, the company’s performance for this year is expected to exceed the target.” 

LSIS previously announced its annual targets of 1.4332 trillion won in sales, 165.8 billion won in operating profit for this year in a public disclosure.
