LS Cable (Chairman & CEO Christopher Koo) will select 55 students attending China Three Gorges University (CTGU) located in Yichang (宜昌) City, Hubei Province and send them on an all-expense-paid trip to visit the ‘2010 Shanghai World Expo.’ Yichang is where the Chinese subsidiary of LS Cable, LS Hongqi Cable, is located. The trip will be from July 20 to 24 and includes visits not only to the Expo but also to the LS Industrial Complex in Wuxi (無錫) and the Superior Essex (SPSX) operation in Suzhou (蘇州). This event is part of the expanding corporate social responsibility program of LS Cable and is intended to enhance the corporate brand image by targeting local university students, who are seen as future customers.
LS Cable managing director Won-hyung Ahn said, “This event was designed so that overseas subsidiaries may contribute to the development of the local community. We are planning to undertake more social contribution activities tailored to the specific characteristics of each country where our overseas business locations are located on a continuous basis.”
LS Cable acquired Hubei Yongding Hongqi Electricity, a power cable manufacturer, from the Yongding Group of China in September 2009 and re-launched it as LS Hongqi Electricity in December that same year. Prior to its acquisition, LS Hongqi Electricity was a medium sized cable maker with yearly sales amounting to approximately KRW100 billion. With the acquisition LS Cable plans to grow it as the number one cable maker in China with sales reaching KRW 1 trillion a year by 2015.
LS Hongqi Cable produces a variety of cables such as power cables (including 220kV extra-high voltage cables), submarine cables and special industrial cables, in a plant situated on a 406,600m² (123,000 pyeong) lot in Yichang (宜昌) City, the 2nd largest city in Hubei Province, halfway up the Yangtze River (揚子江).
