■ Wireless charger for iPhone 4/4S and Galaxy S II
■ Popular due to slim design, diverse colors and low price
■ Received enthusiastically at two of Asia’s largest IT peripherals exhibitions
Seoul, Korea, December, 26th - LS Cable & System (Chairman & CEO: Christopher Koo) showcased its second generation Chaver (charger+cover), the first wireless charger system exclusively designed and developed by LS Cable & System. Being designed specifically for the iPhone 4/4S and Galaxy S II, the new Chaver consists of a charging pad and mobile phone cover. Charging starts automatically simply by placing the cover onto a mobile phone and then placing it on top of the charging pad. With charging efficiency equivalent to that of wired chargers, the new Chaver completes charging in around two and a half hours.
The new Chaver is offered in a broader choice of colors. They are available in black or white for the iPhone 4/4S, and in a wide range of two-tone combinations for the Galaxy S II, such as orange & black, green & black, orange & white, green & white and pink & white. The sophisticated and slim design of the charging pad (9.1mm) and cover (3mm) matches well with the smartphones. Because annoying cables are eliminated, the new Chaver is expected to be popular among discriminating buyers who prefer clean and user-friendly designs. And because the new Chaver carries an MSRP of KRW 60,000 making it 30% cheaper than the previous model, the product is expected to be far more popular. LS Cable & System will soon be releasing covers for a variety of other smartphone models and mobile devices one by one. Therefore, customers who already have a charging pad will be able to use the new Chaver simply by purchasing a new cover.
For charging, the new Chaver employs the vertical magnetic field mode where the magnetic field produced in the primary coil of the charging pad by letting current flow through electromagnetic induction supplies current to the secondary coil of the charger. The excellence of this technology was awarded Qi certification by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). This means that the new Chaver is 100% compatible with Qi certified products of other electronics companies.
According to IHS Supply, a global “information company” headquartered in the U.S., the market for wireless chargers is forecast to grow rapidly to as much as $23.7 billion of annual sales in 2015 (equivalent to approximately KRW 30 trillion) (Refer to attachment). Accordingly, LS Cable & System is preparing to release a series of follow-up products, such as wireless chargers for laptop computers, tablet PCs and chargers designed for use in automobiles. LS Cable & System has been contacting mobile network operators in such countries as the U.S. and China and a number of mobile phone manufacturers in Korea for commercialization of the new products.
Significantly, LS Cable & System’s Chaver received favorable responses at two of Asia’s largest IT peripherals exhibitions, the China Global Sourcing Fair 2011 (held in October) and CEATEC Japan 2010 (held in October). LS Cable & System plans to further showcase its products at the mammoth CES 2012 held in Las Vegas (U.S.A.) and MWC 2012 to be held in Barcelona (Spain) next year.
