Seoul, Korea, 6th, March - LS Cable & System (Chairman & CEO: Christopher Koo) announced on March 6 that Superior Essex (a.k.a. SPSX) (CEO: Stephen Carter), its U.S. subsidiary, began producing 300V and 600V cables for signaling and controlling. Such cables are widely used for power supply and management. The cables produced by SPSX are high-quality cables certified by UL (Underwriter`s Laboratories; see the glossary), which has some of the toughest standards with regard to electrical shorts and fire-proofing of electrical products. With the release of these cables, LS Cable & System has laid a foundation for advancing into the North American electricity market, and SPSX has now added power cables as well as winding wires and communication cables to its product portfolio, thereby securing new growth engines.

These products began rolling off the low and medium voltage production lines of SPSX’s newly built Tarboro, N.C. plant in May of 2011. With the plant, LS Cable became the first Korean cable company to build a production facility in the U.S. LS Cable & System has explained that, as this plant is equipped with state-of-the-art production facilities and an effective inventory management system, it can meet all the demands of key customers proactively and effectively.

The plant covers an area of about 200,000m² (about 60,000 pyeong). LS Cable & System has invested a total of $60 million (about KRW65 billion) and plans to complete it in mid-October. Currently, as part of its ramping strategy, the plant will produce mostly low and medium voltage electric power distribution cable products, but will be able to additionally produce high value-added products including high-voltage cables for electric power transmission and power solution products.

“The release of these products means that LS Cable & System’s endeavor to advance into global markets is producing results,” said Mr. Jongho Son, President of LS Cable & System. “We are planning to combine LS Cable & System’s technical know-how of electric power with SPSX’s network in leading markets so as to deploy various marketing strategies with a view to penetrating the North American and European markets.”
