Chairman Christopher Koo (57) of LS Cable and LS Mtron will be inaugurated as the Honorary Consul of Vietnam on the 26th at the COEX Intercontinental Hotel in Samseong-dong, Seoul. The Honorary Consul Koo will serve as a ‘civil diplomat’ contributing to the economic development of Korea and Vietnam on the basis of intercultural exchange and goodwill between the countries. 

Chairman Koo expressed his impressions about the inauguration. “Vietnam is one of the top 10 export destinations for Korean products and Korea is one of the top 4 trading partners of Vietnam. As such, Korea and Vietnam have a close relationship.” He added, “As Vietnam’s electrical, electronics, plant and heavy industries are growing rapidly, both Korea and Vietnam will exert their best efforts to build a strategic partnership.” 

In 1996, LS Cable entered the Vietnamese market in full scale with establishment of LS-VINA Cable in Haiphong. Currently, LS Cable has approximately 600 employees working in two local companies. Each year, LS-VINA Cable has been recording sales of $230 million to contribute to the economic development and employment of Vietnam. With these achievements acknowledged, the Vietnamese government awarded LS Cable a number of commendations such as the Order of Merit for Labor, the Commendation for Special Service for Exports and the Golden Dragon Award. Furthermore, in 2008 and this year, LS Cable sent a team of voluntary service workers consisting of college students to Vietnam to help strengthen the exchange between the countries. 

The inauguration ceremony will be attended by approximately 150 persons including Ambassador Tran Trong Toan of Vietnam and guests of the diplomatic services as well Chairman Koo’s associates.
