On the 25th, LS Cable (Chairman & CEO Christopher Koo), launched ‘EWAY Qubi Plus,’ a Hi-pass terminal for toll reduction of specially classified vehicles traveling on the nation’s highways. This is the first such solution offered in Korea. LS Cable explained that this product was designed to resolve inconvenience issues that veterans and disabled persons have had of not being able to fully use the toll reduction privileges they are entitles to. Of the Hi-pass terminals proposed for vehicles specially designated for reduced toll fees, the EWAY Qubi Plus was the only product that satisfied all of the requirements of the Korea Expressway Corp. in terms of communication compatibility, driving performance and operational tests conducted by branch offices. 

The key feature of this product is that the toll and balance amounts are informed by both voice and text on a screen. LS Cable explained that this function was added in response to complaints of users who said they had difficulty in checking the amounts easily. 

Furthermore, the OLED screen of the unit offers outstanding readability due to the clarity of the technology which provides clear viewing even at very wide angles. Because of the screen drivers can check information at a glance even during daytime. In addition, to more swiftly identify drivers who qualify for the reduced fees the unit is equipped with a high-speed dedicated-chip fingerprint reader. 

Those wishing to use the product should purchase a unit then visit their local community service center or the branch office of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs to register their fingerprint in the presence of a handling officer. With fingerprint registration completed the terminal will automatically recognize the toll reduction status when driving through the Hi-pass gateway on the expressways. However, to prevent illegal use, the fingerprint must be reentered after 4 hours.
