By successful acquisition of Jinro Industries (currently JS Cable), Mr. Koo has made LS Cable the No. 1 cable company in offshore and marine cables, and further, by buying out Superior Essex, the biggest cable company in North America, he successfully made LS Cable one of the three biggest cable companies in the world.
Since Mr. Koo has taken office, its overseas offices have grown to 60 by the end of 2007 from a mere 10 in 2003. Moreover, overseas sales have steadily increased to KRW 1.6 trillion (fiscal year 2007) from KRW 0.9 trillion in 2003.
Being recognized for his outstanding global management competence by making active inroads into overseas markets, Mr. Koo has acted as an executive director for the ICF (International Cables Federation) and even made significant contributions to the expansion of the Korean electric power industry from a global perspective.
Further, he has strengthened the domestic cable industry’s global competitiveness by acquiring world-class core technologies. Under his successful management, LS Cable has continuously affirmed itself in terms of sales and technology as a world-class cable company by developing products such as high-voltage cables, HTS cables and even submarine cables, which had previously been dominated exclusively by a few European cable companies.
Christopher Koo has introduced progressive innovations in all areas so much that he has even been referred to as an ‘innovation evangelist.’ He has implemented continuous innovation activities through adoption of 6 Sigma, enterprise-wide quality and manufacturing management practices, and PI (Process Innovation), etc. As the first among cable companies to adopt ERP, he was able to greatly increase the qualitative competitiveness of LS Cable as well as realize a successful restructuring of its financial system.
Electricity Day (April 10) celebrates the day when the first electric light was turned on in Korea on April 10, 1900, an event that is celebrated biennially.
