■ Part of LS Group campus recruitment efforts; special lecture given at Seoul National University on September 30
■ “Let us become global leaders through convergence, global business capabilities, and positive energy.”
LSIS Vice Chairman Koo Ja-kyun gave a special lecture at the LS Group’s recruiting event, describing his personal ideal talent image as LSIS CEO.
At the Seoul National University College of Engineering recruitment session held on the afternoon of September 30, Vice Chairman Koo gave a special lecture to 300 graduate candidates. Last year, too, he participated in recruitment sessions with Korea University and Yonsei University, communicating with young people. The current event is the second series of its kind.
At the lecture, he explained that each era has its own global leading industry such as shipbuilding, automobile, and electronics. Those nations or corporations that dominated such industries controlled the global markets. We should have insights into reading the changes of mega-trend industries to become global leaders, he emphasized.
“Trendy industries generally start in North America and Europe, prosper in Japan, and make their way to South Korea before moving to China. This is a cycle. Due to the global imbalance in electricity demand and supply and environmental problems, the efficient use of energy and development of new energy are emerging as global issues. After the electronic industry, the electric industry will be the next-generation industry that will lead the global economy,” Koo said.
According to Koo, just a few years ago, Korean electronics were poorly recognized, but they emerged as world-renowned products. As such, South Korea has power and potential. “In the next trendy industry era, South Korea should fully enjoy the start and end of robust economy, and you are at the center of such prosperity,” he stressed.
He suggested the three virtues required of such talents: convergence-type talent, talent with global business competence, and talent with bright vitality virus.
“In the age of convergence involving different industries, students of humanities should understand technology, and students of engineering should study humanities. Thus, they can secure competitiveness. You should become “imagineers” who can create and complete new things. Imagineer is a word combining imagine and engineer,” Koo said.
Regarding global business capabilities, he stressed the need to master not only English but also other various foreign languages. Those who not only master foreign languages but also internalize the relevant nations’ etiquettes and other cultures are true global talents, he said.
“If you expect positive responses from a person, he will also behave in response to your expectation, and satisfactory results will eventually come out. When I select HR, I put the most importance on whether the person has bright vitality virus. I am happy to work with talents as CEO,” he stated, citing the Pygmalion Effect.
During its recruitment session, in relation to the positive energy emphasized by Vice Chairman Koo, LSIS gave a book titled Rainbow Principal and two movie tickets to each participant. The company also gave the latest mobile phones and tablet personal computers to the winners of the raffle draw.
Meanwhile, before giving the special lecture, Vice Chairman Koo met SNU College of Engineering professors and thanked them for fostering talented students in engineering.
