■ Gumi/Indong Plant employees delivered 2,000 ‘Briquettes of Love’ 
■ Donghae Plant held ‘Share Kimchi of Love’ event
■ Will continuously promote community outreach services fit for each plant

Seoul, Korea, November 27th - On the 26th, employees of the Gumi/Indong Plant of LS Cable & System (President & CEO: Jaeun Koo) held their 6th annual ‘Briquettes of Love’ event delivering 2000 coal heating briquettes to elderly people living alone in the community. This event aims at helping senior citizens in the Gumi/Indong area get through the winter more safely by helping them keep their homes warm.

LS Cable & System’s outreach programs are characterized as community-centered services performed by employees and managers who volunteer their time, skills and portions of their salaries to help out the local communities of each plant through programs tailored to the collective talents of the workers of the respective plants. LS Cable & System aims at contributing to the local community by fulfilling its share of social responsibilities as a member of the community and ultimately achieving win-win development for both the plants and local communities. For example, about 600 employees and managers of the Gumi/Indong Plant are currently serving as members of a non-profit team named ‘Chamsarang.’ Organized in 1999, this team has been engaged in various service activities for 14 uninterrupted years. Each month Chamsarang members visit orphanages and nursing homes to improve the living environments of those facilities. In addition, together with organizing birthday parties, sports events, free meals and even haircuts, the team members also donate a portion of their wages to help pay for heating fuel and food expenses. And on the 11th of next month, Chamsarang members will gather together to make loads of Kimchi for their neglected neighbors.

Meanwhile, at the Donghae Plant, ‘Jeongnanumhoe,’ with its approximately 200 members, is also helping out local communities. Organized in the earlier days of the Donghae Plant establishment in 2009, Jeongnanumhoe has been providing scholarships to orphans and protecting rivers and cultural properties within the region. In particular, on the 14th, the members participated in the local ‘Share Kimchi of Love’ event where together they made loads of Kimchi out of 600 heads of cabbage and then personally delivered all of it to elderly persons living alone, to local orphans, and people with low incomes. In addition, as part of their educational donation program, the team has been implementing a special vocational program since 2012 together with Kangwon National University. Jeongnanumhoe organizes lectures about submarine cables and special industrial cable technologies targeting students majoring in electrical, electronic and IT engineering. Students who attend the lectures are given two credits, and those with outstanding records are given preferential treatment when applying for positions at LS Cable & System. 

As a group-level program, LS Cable & System is carrying on with its ‘Revive Anyangcheon Stream’ campaign every quarter. In addition, LS Cable & System has also introduced a system whereby all employees and managers donate a set portion of their wages to a special fund used for purchasing living items for neighbors in need in the respective communities and also provide living expenses for them.
