■ For fiscal year 2009, sales reached 2,765 Mil USD and operating profits amounted to 145Mil USD
■ Major tasks were decided upon, such as reinforcing competitiveness and strengthening the global business infrastructure
Seoul, Korea, February 18, 2010 - LS Cable (Chairman & CEO Christopher Koo) announced on February 18 that the sales target for 2010 is 2,765 Mil USD. Despite the global recession LS Cable was able to generate 2,765 Mil USD in domestic sales and 145 Mil USD in operating profits in 2009.
The company believes that these outstanding accomplishments prove that the application and solution-based business model that it had been focused on has now been firmly established, so for this year LS Cable has decided to concentrate on ‘maximizing performance by securing global competency.’ To achieve this goal three major tasks have been identified for 2010: (1) to create results by reinforcing business competency, (2) to reinforce the global business infrastructure, and (3) to secure global competencies and innovate the organizational culture.
‘To create results by reinforcing business competency,’ LS Cable has decided to concentrate on market and product diversification. While continuing to break into new markets, such as Southeast Asia, India and Europe, the company is planning to further consolidate its position in what is now its key market, which is the Middle East. Starting with the Jindo-Jeju submarine cable installation project, LS is planning to go full steam ahead with the marine business. A key part of the overall strategy is to strengthen its business model with application and solution businesses such wind power, railway and electric cars.
To reinforce its global business infrastructure, LS will aggressively penetrate the US and Chinese markets. To establish itself as a general cable maker in the US, the company is concentrating on reorganizing Superior Essex while also focusing on fostering energy-related businesses as well. LS Cable believes that, when it capitalizes on its technical know-how to make inroads into the American power cable market, it will be able to make the most of the existing sales network of Superior Essex, and thus quickly stabilize its business successfully. Additionally, LS is planning to update and expand the facilities and infrastructure of the LS Hongqi Cable plant in China, which was launched in December 2009. LS Hongqi will concentrate on the power cable, special industrial cable and equipment cable markets with a view to transform the subsidiary into a major general cable maker in China.
Meanwhile, LS Cable will continuously work toward securing global competency and innovate its organizational culture. By continuously hiring the best and most globally-savvy workforce, the company plans to increase the number of international employees working in core areas, such as technology, marketing and sales, to 10% of the entire workforce. In addition, LS is engaged in innovation activities focusing on ‘walk-around’ and customer satisfaction management, while building a sustainability management system based on a globally integrated management system.
