Seoul, Korea, April, 26th - It was announced on the 26th that LS Cable & System (Chairman and CEO Christopher Koo) was conferred FloorScore certification and passed tests satisfying the CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) for its rubber flooring products. With these achievements, the excellent eco-friendliness of LS Cable & System’s flooring products has been ever more widely acknowledged. 

FloorScore is an international indoor air quality certification mark issued jointly by SCS (Scientific Certification Systems) and the RFCI (Resilient Floor Covering Institute) of the U.S. The mark is presented only to products that pass a series of strict tests that check for the presence of 35 substances deemed harmful to either personal health or the environment. By gaining FloorScore certification, LS Cable & System’s flooring products are also qualified for LEED certification, which is an eco-friendly building certification system of the USGBC (United States Green Building Council). 

The CPSIA established by the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission), a U.S. Federal Government regulatory organization, is aimed at protecting domestic consumers following the mass recall of Chinese toys in 2007. Applied to all products sold to consumers, this system intends to check products for 6 phthalates (chemical additives used to soften plastic) that are proven to be detrimental to the endocrine (hormone) system, and for lead, which is harmful to the human nervous system. By securing CPSIA compatibility, LS Cable & System’s products are now acknowledged for their eco-friendliness and suitability for facilities for toddlers and children under the age of 12 with weak immune systems for whom the use of eco-friendly products is strongly required.

The specific products certified were SOFTRONG, an eco-friendly flooring material, SAFEPLAN, an antibiotic rubber flooring, SPOFLEX, the only flooring material in Korea for sports facilities, SAFEMARINE, a special flooring material for ships, and SAFEGUARD, a rubber flooring for subway trains. The certifications are essential for entry into the North American, European and Chinese markets. By winning the certifications, LS Cable & System has secured a foundation for entry into a global market to the scale of KRW 6 trillion. 

LS Cable & System plans to expand its business into North American and Chinese markets, secure a foundation in European markets and challenge new business areas in Korea, such as railways and ships. In pursuing these goals, LS Cable & System will increase its global market share by continuously targeting its marketing efforts, such as by inviting domestic and foreign customers, organizing presentations in strategic bases abroad and participating in overseas exhibitions. 

Since entering the commercial flooring market in 1994 with its compounding technology (mixing of raw materials) obtained through its cable manufacturing operations, LS cable & System has been supplying flooring products for airports, subway trains, ships and stadiums not only in Korea, but also abroad focusing on Asian countries including China, Taiwan and Singapore. In Korea, the products have been installed at the Incheon International Airport, the KTX and Subway Line 4. In 2010, LS Cable & System signed a contract with Metroflor of the U.S. to supply flooring materials and flocking carpets to the scale of KRW 51 billion, the largest order received by a Korean company for such products. Moreover, five SOFTSTRONG branded products, an eco-friendly rubber flooring, were conferred the KEITI Environmental Mark. With the largest number of certifications among Korean companies, LS Cable & System is being acknowledged for its excellent product quality both domestically and internationally.
