■ Facility modernization and remodeling of a State-Operated Hospital in Yichang, Hubei 
■ First in Korea to contribute to the local community in China 

Seoul, Korea, April, 19th - LS Hongqi Cable, the Chinese affiliate of LS Cable & System (Chairman & CEO: Christopher Koo), has supported the recent remodeling and modernization of a ‘State-Operated Hospital’ (a common designation for hospitals in rural regions) in Lianfeng, Yichang of Hubei Province along with the Red Cross Society of China and held a completion ceremony for the project on the 19th. Yichang is where LS Hongqi Cable is located. The ceremony was attended by around 30 people including LS Hongqi Cable Branch Manager Seonguk Kim, Vice Chairman Wang Zi of the Red Cross China Fund and Yichang City insiders. 

This project, which has been implemented since 2005 by the Red Cross Society of China, is aimed at remodeling old hospital buildings in rural regions and modernizing their medical facilities. There are approx. 2,000 hospitals involved in this project in China with around 20 in Hubei Province. However, this was the first in Yichang City. So far, the project has been sponsored by local companies in China. LS Cable & System is the first Korean company to participate in the project by supporting the Red Cross with RMB 300,000 (equivalent to approx. KRW 54 million) to pay for the costs. 

With completion of this project, the old Lianfeng hospital was reborn as a modern one covering 2,537m2 with 23 full-time staff and around 20 new sickbeds. The medical services offered have also been diversified to include internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, Oriental medicine and physical therapy so the residents of Yichang will be able to receive upgraded medical services. LS Cable & System decided to support this project in order to fulfill its responsibility as a corporate citizen by giving back to the local community. In addition, since the hospital has been renamed as the ‘Yichang LS Hongqi Cable & System Renovated State-Operated Hospital’ it is anticipated that the LS brand will be naturally exposed to local residents, leading to positive publicity for the company’s image. 

“We are pleased to be able to contribute to local development by improving local medical facilities,” said LS Hongqi Cable Branch Manager Seonguk Kim. He explained, “We are planning to develop a variety of programs with which to contribute to local economic development and to increase the company’s sales in the future.”
