LSIS (Vice Chairman& CEO: Koo Ja-kyun) ranks among the world’s top three companies in long-term solar modular technology reliability, among world-class solar photovoltaic players operating in the Japanese market. 

Japanese solar energy specialist magazine PVeye recently surveyed the long-term solar module quality reliability of global players and ranked them accordingly. SolarWorld of Germany topped the survey with a score of 25 points (out of a total of 28 points), followed by Suntech Power of China (22 points) and LSIS of South Korea (21 points).  

PVeye explained the reason behind the evaluation of long-term reliability. “Normally, the absolute module value criteria factors -- conversion efficiency and power generation cost -- are evaluated, but these hardly show the true value of modules. Thus, the long-term reliability factor was also evaluated in ranking the makers,” it said.  

PVeye defined four long-term reliability factors: over 20 years’ achievements, testing of durability, assurance, and certification.* 

LSIS earned high scores in all items including over 20 years’ achievements, durability, assurance, and certification, joining the ranks of the world’s top three players. In fact, LSIS was the first Korean firm to enter the solar business in 1986; since then, it has secured years of know-how and reliability. 

For the item on over 20 years’ achievements, performance of over 20 years’ operation in the fields was tested; for durability testing, the general module durability testing of thermal recycling and dump heat was evaluated.  

In terms of assurance, the warranty service period for the degradation of module power generation volume was assessed. Finally, for certification, the acquisition of TUV, JET, and VDE among other certifications was surveyed.

The survey gave a full 8 points for the achievements of the three top players of SolarWorld, Suntech Power and LISI, and of Panasonic of Japan. For durability, four companies -- SolarWorld, Mitsubishi of Japan, Yingli Green of China, and SunPower of the USA -- earned the full score of 8 points.  

Among the top 25 players, 9 were from China, 8, from Japan, 4, from South Korea, 2, from Taiwan, 1, from Germany, and 1, from USA. For certification, S Energy and Hansol Technics of South Korea earned the full score of 4 points.
 
According to an LSIS official, the long-term solar module reliability ranking by PVeye, unlike the existing criteria, evaluated over 20 years’ achievements, thereby assessing the companies’ products and reliability and making the result of the evaluation meaningful. “LSIS is set to penetrate not only the Japanese and other global photovoltaic markets with total solutions including not only modules but also solar inverters, connection panels, monitoring, and engineering,” he added.
