■ Cables for special shipboard like LNG, etc., amounting 50 million US$, will be supplied to Samsung Heavy Industry for 3 years.
■ Succeeded in receiving an order with its world-class unique technology, product quality and price competitiveness.
LS Cable (CEO: Chayol Koo) succeeded in receiving an order from domestic and overseas companies like Nexans Korea and TMC (subsidiary company of Daihan Cable) in the biggest bidding for shipboard cables in the world. This order was placed by Samsung Heavy Industries.
This order is for cables used in special shipboards like LNG ships and oil prospecting ships. With the order in the scale of 50 million US$, it is the biggest single order in the world. LS Cable will supply cables for 25 ships of special purpose constructed by Samsung Heavy Industries for 3 years till 2009. 70% cables will be supplied to LNG ships.
Since the natural gas in liquid type will be transferred for LNG ships, a perfect safety precaution to prevent explosion or leakage during sailing is required in advance. Therefore, cables should also have high-reliability and heat-resistance.
Traditionally Korea is strong in the shipboard industry with ships occupying more than 40% market share worldwide. LS Cable and Nexans are currently leading the shipboard cable market. LS Cable achieved sales exceeding 65 million US$ last year, and plans to achieve sales turnover exceeding 78 million US$ this year, which is a 20% increase from last year.
