LSIS Vice Chairman & CEO Ja-kyun Koo received Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit in recognition of his concerted efforts to invest in R&D on industrial power and automation, and to boost the company’s intellectual property (IP) competitiveness, thereby helping secure a future growth engine for the country.

LSIS announced on May 16 that this most prestigious order of the government had been conferred on Vice Chairman Ja-kyun Koo at the Invention Day ceremony hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office at the aT Center in Yangjae-dong, Seoul.

Ja-kyun Koo, Vice Chairman of LSIS, has systematically implemented various systematic and innovative IP strategies, leading the drive to secure domestic and global IP competitiveness in the main infrastructure sectors of electric power and automation, which include electric IT, eco-friendly electronic devices, inverters, photovoltaic energy, parts for electric cars, and semiconductors for electric power. 

In addition, LSIS, with the registration of its IP rights, has secured massive patent rights on key eco-friendly technologies, including South Korea’s first No. 1 green technology, and now boasts the country’s largest number of certifications.

Thus, LSIS has been evaluated for three consecutive years as one of the Top 100 Global Innovators by Thomson Reuters. The four evaluation indices are the Success (ratio of published applications to granted patents), Global (quadrilateral patents was comprised from the Chinese Patent Office, the European Patent Office, the Japanese Patent Office, and the United States Patent & Trademark Office), Influence (how often it is subsequently cited by other companies in their inventions), and Volume (companies which are responsible for generating a sizeable amount of innovation). As such, LSIS has been recognized for its power and automation technologies and IP competitiveness.

Furthermore, LSIS, under the leadership of Vice Chairman Koo, has constructed an exclusive factory for the next-generation power transmission technology, namely, high voltage direct current (HVDC), and secured domestic and overseas patents in the key HVDC technology sector, enabling it to lay the groundwork for competition with advanced corporations on a global scale. Vice Chairman Koo formed a team of executives to assume responsibility for patents, and led efforts to register IP patents, bolstering the company’s leading IP R&D strategies. He also reinforced the job incentive regulation to promote the internal IP in a bid to positively implement IP management, thereby contributing to the country’s industrial competitiveness.

In addition, LSIS has conducted win-win and shared growth initiatives over the last five years, including the joint development of 308 technologies with small- and medium-sized enterprises; leadership of medium-sized firms and research institutes; approval for SMEs’ use of such technologies free of charge; the development, use and transfer of its patents by SMEs; and the provision of financial support and to its partners by enabling them ensured cash flow and financial soundness.
