■ LSIS achieves distinctive sales growth in public infrastructure and green businesses such as smart grids and photovoltaic energy
■ Amid global economic recession and low-season economy, the company’s power reception/distribution and power transmission/transformation businesses post good results
Despite the global economic recession and the overall slowdown of the heavy electric industry in Q1, LSIS posted impressive results in its green businesses, such as smart grids, photovoltaic energy, and public infrastructures, which the company has vigorously fostered as its future growth engines.
LSIS announced its Q1 business results on April 30 as follows: KRW 558.8bn in sales, KRW 35.1bn in operating profit, and KRW 21.3bn in profit, showing increases of 5.6%, 7.4%, and 67.2%, respectively, over the same period of the previous year.
The company’s main power (reception/distribution and transmission/transformation) and automation businesses grew at the usual annual rate due to the global economic recession and the low season. However, sales in its green businesses, which the company has intensively fostered as its future business engines, have expanded, achieving "significant growth.”
Of the company’s green businesses, smart grid sales were boosted by overseas projects, such as the construction of distribution control centers (DCC) in Iraq, increasing by 130%, during Q1; while public infrastructure business sales were bolstered by railroad signal control businesses in South Korea, Bangladesh, and elsewhere, rising by 80%.
The photovoltaic business also grew markedly, by almost 10%, propelled by positive sales and marketing efforts at home and abroad, thus contributing to overall sales.
Along with the stable growth of its existing cash cows of power and automation, LSIS is expanding its green businesses, and expects to grow further in Q2.
In a bid to maintain its growth, LSIS is set to continue boosting its marketing campaigns not only in Iraq, where strong growth has been achieved, but also in South America, the Middle East and Africa where SOC investments are expected to expand in the power transmission and distribution sector.
An LSIS officer explained, “While the industry has suffered an overall setback, coupled with the usual seasonal slowdown, our markedly good performance is attributable to robust business in our main area of power transmission and transformation. In addition, our green businesses, on which our efforts have been focused, have enjoyed prominent sales, contributing to our overall sales. This Q1 trend looks set to continue to the end of this year.”
