■ Will supply 400kV premium cables in and around Bahrain
■ Significant achievement to win an extra-large project in the stagnant Middle East market
 

On October 11, LS Cable & System (President & CEO Roe-hyun Myung) announced that it won a contract for a turnkey project to supply $125.55 million (approximately KRW142.4 billion) in extra-high voltage cables to the Electricity Board of Bahrain.
 
This project is to build a new power network in the entire area of Bahrain, with the Bahrain government’s objective to supply the power required for its industrialization and urbanization projects. LS Cable & System will not only provide premium 400kV extra-high voltage cables, but also carry out the entire engineering process including electrical and civil engineering.
 
The Middle East is an important market that accounts for approximately 20% of global demand of extra-high voltage cables, but big investments in infrastructure were delayed for many years due to low oil prices.
LS C&S said that the success factor for winning this project was their successful completion of Bahrain’s major transmission network construction projects during the last decade.

LS C&S has the biggest market share in the Middle East, and is supplying extra-high voltage submarine and underground cables around Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, etc. In 2012 and 2017, it won the biggest contract for a Korean company to export submarine and extra-high voltage cables in Qatar, with values of KRW500 billion and KRW220 billion won respectively.
