■ The first nationwide fiber optic network installation project in Oman

LS Cable & System(President & CEO Roe-hyun Myung) will participate in the first telecommunication project financed by the Asian. Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
 
LS C&S announced on November 6 that it was selected as one of the participants in Oman’s broadband communication network project.
 
It is the first nationwide fiber optic network installation project in Oman that is carried out by state-owned Oman Broadband (OBB). The project will unfold in two stages. In the first stage a network will be built connecting the capital city of Muscat to other major cities by 2021 followed by a second stage slated to expand the network to all remaining provinces by 2030.
 
LS C&S is tasked with not only supplying the optical cables but will also help with the design and engineering of the communication network. While cable companies competed fiercely to receive orders worth hundreds of billions of Korean won, LS C&S had the advantage over its competitors as it had carried out a large project in nearby Qatar.
 
This project attracted the attention of the industry as it is the first telecommunication infrastructure project financed by the AIIB. AIIB’s mission is primarily focused on much larger infrastructure projects such as construction of power grids, roads and bridges.
 
“It is very significant in that we participated in this first telecommunication project successively following the Bangladesh power project that was first approved by AIIB last year,” said Mr. Ro-hyun Myung, CEO of LS C&S. “I hope that it will help increase the opportunities for Korean companies to participate in AIIB projects in the future.”
 
The support of government agencies like KOTRA and the Korea Information & Communication Contractors Association has been greatly appreciated by Korean companies wishing to participate in AIIB projects as the government entities have greatly helped with the bidding process.
