■ Multiple orders won for extra-high-voltage electric cables in Bahrain and gap conductors in Kuwait
Seoul, Korea, April 08, 2010 - LS Cable (Chairman & CEO Christopher Koo) announced on April 8 that the company has received successive orders for important electric power projects to the scale of $120 million and $34 million from Bahrain and Kuwait respectively. The countries are actively implementing government-level electric power upgrade projects the bidding of which LS Cable has actively participated in and as a result has climbed to a superior position for future projects.
For the extra-high-voltage cable implementation project initiated Bahrain that aims to meet the rapidly growing demand for power with newly installed national infrastructure, LS Cable will supply 220kV level extra-high-voltage cables and binders to all regions of the country by December next year. In addition, from June of this year to November of next year, LS Cable will supply 4,118km of 400kV level gap conductors (see glossary) and assist in the installation of a power transmission system promoted by the electric power administration of Kuwait.
Vice President Myeong-gyu Choi of LS Cable said, “This is a valuable result achieved by systematic and organic harmony of a thorough market survey by local companies, customized marketing by business division and technological support by R&D.” Vice President Choi added, “We will embark upon active entry into not only the Middle East, but also the North American and European markets in the future.”
※ Gap conductor, a power transmission cable for capacity increase
- A gap conductor produces high conductivity using super thermal-resistant aluminum alloy as the conductor. Without needing to add power transmission towers and lines, twice the power can be transmitted simply by replacing the existing cable. Therefore, economic system implementation can be achieved within a short period of time.
