LS Cable developed G-PON equipment for FTTH first time in domestic market and received the overseas order

■ Developing G-PON, total solution from cables to communication equipment is provided 
■ 2-3 times transmission capacity than E-PON, more than 30% of transmission efficiency
■ Recently supplied G-PON Equipment worth US$1 million to the Ministry of Information-Communication, Kuwait.

LS Cable (CEO: Chayol Koo), developed G-PON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) equipment for FTTH (Fiber to the Home), the first in Korea and could supply total solution from cables to communication equipment. 

G-PON system developed this time comprises all transmission equipment connecting fiber cable networks between telephone office and subscribers. Comparing to E-PON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) that’s generally used in domestic market, it has 2-3 times more of data transmission capability, and it is also remarkable to have more than 30% of transmission efficiency.

On the other hand, G-PON system provides the best efficiency in communication equipment for FTTH. It shows 1.5Gbps at maximum from subscribers to telephone office and 2.5Gbps at maximum from telephone office to subscribers. One interface for subscribers can receive 64 subscribers at maximum.

Moreover, since it is selected as the standard for ITU (International Telecommunication Union) uniquely in equipment establishing FTTH, it shows excellent compatibility between communication providers. This system enables various multimedia services like leased line, normal telephone and video as well as new IP-based services like high-speed internet, IPTV and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol).

Since only a few companies like LS Cable and Alcatel-Lucent have this technology, it’s been only recently introduced to the worldwide market. As a field having a big market potential growth, demand is rapidly increasing centered in North America, Europe and the Middle East.

Meanwhile, LS Cable will provide G-PON equipment worth US$1 million to the recent project ordered by the Ministry of Information-Communication, Kuwait. They plan to start service in the latter half of this year. They also plan to aggressively penetrate the overseas market to receive orders of GPON-based FTTH projects, which are expected to rapidly grow from next year.
