■ Climbs to an advantageous position for entry into the European railway market  

Seoul, Korea, July 12nd - LS Cable & System (Chairman: Christopher Koo) announced on the 12th that the company had received IRIS (International Railway Industry Standard) certification from UNIFE (Association of the European Rail Industry) as the first cable manufacturing company in Asia to do so. Jointly established by UNIFE as well as companies representing the European railway industry including Siemens and Alstom, IRIS is a standard that has been supplemented to suit the railway industry based on ISO9001, an international quality standard.

This certification substitutes advance screening of suppliers for the railway industry in Europe and therefore grants qualification to supply parts without additional quality system assessment. In addition, a certified company is listed in the UNIFE database and therefore provided with opportunities to publicize their products online to leading railway companies. As a result, LS Cable & System has climbed to an advantageous position for entry into the European market with the company’s railway solution products.

Assessment for this certification took place targeting the Donghae Plant, which produces a wide range of industrial cables. To accomplish this certification, LS Cable & System had organized a full-time task force team which completed scrupulous verification for 20 fields for one year since May last year and therefore was able to pass the strict screening process of UNIFE. 

Railway cable products of LS Cable & System have been acknowledged of their excellent quality throughout the world ever since they were chosen by Siemens for use in the Saudi Arabian railway project in 2009. LS Cable & System explained, “With this certification, we will strive to introduce a variety of railway products to the European market.”
