■ UNECO visits LSIS to benchmark its New Moscow Project forelectric power systems modernization
■ UNECO considers adopting products and technologies to improve and expand electrical grids and construct smart cities
■ UNECO observes the Cheongju production line and Jeju pilot complex for smart grids and HVDC
■ Impressed by LSIS’s success and competitiveness in the global AMI business
With Russia’s ramshackle electric power gridurgently requiring replacement, United Energy Company (UNECO), responsible for the electric power field in the New Moscow Project, visited LSIS in South Korea to consider introducing LSIS’s smart grids and other power solutions to the Russian capital.
On September 17, LSIS announced that ten personnel from UNECOincluding CEO Andrey Vladimirovich and a number of high-ranking executives, as well as local vendors, visited LSIS’s HQ and Cheongju factory from September 15 ? 19.
UNECO, which controls power systems with a total capacity of 3,578MVA through2,815 substations anda 12,000km-long transmission line, has been selected as the power infrastructure developer for the Russian government’s New Moscow Project with the aim ofmodernizing the capital’s infrastructures.
Under the project, UNECO plans to introduce smart-grid technology in order to improve Moscow’s ramshackle electric power grid and to transform the capital into a smart city in the long term.
On September 15, LSIS held a technical seminar at the LS Tower HQ in Anyang to brief the UNECO delegation on the 20kV power technology that will be applied in Moscow, and proposed smart solutions such as Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), connection of the capital’s power systems with renewable energy, and the transmission of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC).
During the seminar, the UNECO delegation sounded out the possibility of adopting LSIS’s gas insulated switchgear (GIS), transformers, and high and low-voltage power devices, and praised the company’s competitiveness in smart grids, its construction of digital substations and distribution control centers (DCCs) across Iraq, and its success in winning the world’s largest AMI project (worth US 52.24 million) last year.
On September 16, the second day of their visit, Russian officials visited LSIS’s major factories atCheongju factories1 and 2, where they observed the model of power device that has been exported to Iraq, and production lines that could be introduced to Russia.
On September 17, the Russian delegates visited the Jeju pilot smart grid complex wherethey observed the HVDC conversion station and took a close look at South Korea’s smart-grid technology. On September 18, they visited the Naju Power Exchangeandattended a demonstration of the Korean-type Energy Management System (EMS),in whose development LSIS participated, in the Central Control Room.
UNECO CEO Andrey Vladimirovich, who arrived on September 17, two days after his executives, will meet LSIS Vice Chairman Ja-kyun Koo on September 18 to sound out the possibility of LSIS participating in the New Moscow Project.
UNECO General Director Akhtyamov Sergey Olegovich stated: “In addition to improving the existing electrical grids, we will introduce smart grids in the long term with a view to constructing sustainable smart grids. We have confirmed not only South Korea’s excellent technological capacity but also LSIS’s outstanding business competitiveness.”
LSIS Smart Grid Business Unit Executive Kim Jong-han stated: “The New Moscow Project will serve as a model for the development of other Russian cities. If the city’s ramshackle electric power grid are improved and the planned construction of a smart-grid city is successful, it will be possible to apply electrical grids across Russia.”
He continued:“CEOVladimirovichshowed great interest in LSIS’s smart grid technology, even going so far as tovisit its Cheongju factory. We will propose localized solutions in order to transfer South Korea’s power technology to Russia.”
