■ Still No. 1 in the Extra High Voltage cable market in the Middle East despite delays or cancellations of large projects due to falling oil prices
Anyang, Oct. 11, 2016 - LS Cable & System announced that it has recently signed two contracts for extra-high-voltage cables worth $67 million (about KRW75 billion) in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Electricity Company ordered the cables to expand the power grids of Riyadh, its capital, and Jeddah, a trading port in the southwest. LS Cable & System signed the contracts with EPC (engineering procurement and construction contract) companies, worth $40 million (about KRW45 billion) and $27 million (about KRW30 billion) respectively.
“As we won these contracts at a time when Middle Eastern countries have been reducing their public expenditures due to falling oil prices, and large projects have been delayed or canceled, it is all the more significant,” said Jae-In Yoon, CEO of LS Cable & System. “As the urban population and development of new cities are continuously increasing in the Middle East, we are devoting all our energy to marketing in the belief that investments in power grids will increase if oil prices go up in the future.”
Saudi Arabia is the largest power market in the Middle East along with Qatar and Kuwait. Advanced cable makers in Europe and Japan have been competing fiercely, but LS Cable & System has prevailed as No. 1 in the Middle Eastern extra-high-voltage cable market since the latter half of 2000, especially for submarine cables and 380kV or higher underground cables.
