■ Foreigners will comprise up to 10% of total white color by 2012
■ Expected to promote understanding among cultures and strengthen our competitive edge in the world  

Seoul, Korea, December 7 - LS Cable is planning to increase the number of foreign employees from the current 2% to 10% of all employees by mid 2012. This means that about 130 foreigners will soon be helping LS Cable reinforce its global competitiveness. 

The number of foreign employees was increased from 5 in 2007 to a total of 30 in December 2009. They work primarily in the R&D, Manufacturing Technology, Planning, and Sales departments. Due to the successful integration of the foreign hires LS Cable is now planning to recruit more than 30 additional foreigners per year by 2012. 

Jong-ho Sohn, President of LS Cable said, “the increased number of foreign employees will promote our employees’ understanding of foreign cultures, and reinforce the global competitiveness of LS Cable, which is currently working in all continents including Central & South America and Africa.” LS Cable now comprises more than 60 operations in 23 countries, and is actively implementing localization strategies in order to become the leader of the international cable industry by 2015. 

Some of the largest corporations in Korea have been hiring foreigners as executives, technical consultants, or for manual labor. However, such foreign hires have never been common as general employees, such as clerical workers and R&D personnel. LS Cable’s active hiring of foreigners has been met with enthusiasm as 220 engineers with advanced degrees and students in MBA programs have applied to LS Cable’s 10 available job openings, marking a record 22:1 competition. 

Such passion of foreign students can also be found in China, where LS Cable is expanding its business including its acquisition of Hongqui Electricity. LS Cable hosted a campus recruiting fair in November at 5 major engineering universities, including Harbin Engineering University, Wuhan University of Technology and Nanjing University of Science and Technology. A total of 1,700 students applied for LS Cable’s 20 job openings in the fields of R&D and engineering. 

“We have held campus recruiting fairs since 2006 in major engineering universities in China, and it seems that Chinese students have become more interested in LS Cable, as the company has been recently on the rise to be a global leader,” said Jong-guk Kim, the manager of LS Cable’s Chinese Business Support team.
