Ja-Kyun Koo, vice chairperson of LSIS, held this year’s celebratory party for the staff who were promoted to manager. He invited their family members, too, to show appreciation for the efforts of the staff and dedicated support from the family, which enabled them to become core human resources for LSIS.
The “Smart Working, Happy Life” party was held by LSIS in the afternoon of January 17 at Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul for the staff promoted to manager and their family members to celebrate the promotion.
The party was started at the suggestion of vice president Goo in 2011. At this year’s party, the fourth, about 100 people attended including new managers and their family members from sites nationwide including LSIS HQ and R&D lab in Anyang and others in Cheongju, Cheonan and Busan as well as major executives such as Vice Chairperson Koo, CHO (Chief Human resources Officer) Hae-ryong Park, and their wives.
“LSIS has grown consistently despite the local and international economic downturn, thanks to the efforts of the new managers here. Credit also goes to the families for their commitment. I hope the new managers make renewed efforts to be recognized as admirable leaders in the company and in the family as well,” Vice Chairperson Koo said in his celebratory speech.
According to Mr. Goo, the manager is a de facto leader of the team that has to come up with new work processes and innovative ideas while inspiring colleagues to be great leaders in the future. If the goals appear impossible, we get to find new and uncharted methods to achieve them, through which “impossible” can turn into “possible,” he added.
“The word ‘Company’ is a combination of two parts ? com, meaning ‘together’, and pany, meaning ‘eat bread’; thus ‘company’ effectively shares the same value as that of ‘family.’ Now people in a company do not just share bread but also communicate continuously about the big picture and share ideas to develop both the company and the family into a true ‘company’,” he explained.
He finished the speech by emphasizing communication. “Great leaders put themselves in the shoes of others based on the habit of ‘listening a lot while talking less’ to lead both company and family.”
Following the banquet was the ceremony wherein the new managers gave bouquets of roses and letters of appreciation to their spouses.
There were also events such as fun quizzes and giveaways including hotel vouchers and pairs of walking shoes for the new managers and family members to wish for their fresh first steps as managers.
Jong-Hoon Choi, manager in the T&D Sales Team, read the letter of appreciation on behalf of the new managers. “It certainly is not an easy task to be recognized for one’s efforts by both the family and the company, but being celebrated here, especially in the presence of the CEO’s family, boosts my confidence and sense of responsibility.”
