■ Takes over Hukai Electric; moves into markets of power distribution panel, high voltage breakers; targets 60 billion won in sales in 2014
■ Seeks to establish Beijing research center to complete R&D portfolio with Shanghai research center
■ Aims attain 1.29 trillion won in sales in 2015 through synergistic effects with Dalian and Wuxi
LS Industrial Systems significantly boosted the portfolio of its Chinese operation through small-scale mergers and acquisitions of local companies in China.
LSIS recently took over Hukai Electric, won approval from the Chinese government on April 26, and officially launched LS Hukai Electric on April 29.
LSIS acquired 100 percent-stake in Hukai Electric from China’s Hongqi Electric by investing 5.6 billion won.
Hukai Electric is the first registered electric panel maker in Hubei that has been licensed by the Chinese government, and is engaged in the production of high voltage breakers and power distribution panels as its flagship businesses. The company posted 89 million yuan (about 15 billion won) in sales last year.
An LSIS official said, “LSIS had been engaging in comprehensive operations in the electrical facilities field excluding high voltage equipment, centered on power systems at Dalian, and electrical and automation equipment at Wuxi.” The official added, “Hukai Electric, which we newly took over, is producing high-voltage breaker of up to 126kV, and we will be equipped with a full line-up of products, and thus consolidate our business portfolio that is required for us to win future projects in China.”
To this end, LSIS will seek strategic alliances between Hukai Electric with local companies and between the Beijing research center and research institutes, respectively, and is considering additional M&As of companies that could generate synergistic effect.
