■ PT&T officially registered as high-voltage testing agency by Malaysia’s TNB
■ Reduction of time and cost of product certification ? Dramatic rise in market share expected
■ Ready to penetrate the SE Asian power infrastructure market based on globally proven capability and reliability
The world-class certification testing evaluation capability of the Power Testing & Technology Institute (PT&T), the key to LSIS’s quality management, is widely recognized in the SE Asian power market.
LSIS announced on November 10, 2014 that it has been officially registered as a high- voltage testing agency for 36kV or less by Malaysia’s power authority.
TNB(TENAGA NASIONAL BERHAD) is Malaysia’s largest power authority, supplying 75% of the country’s power. It grants the qualification for registration as an official testing agency only to those entities that have proven themselves technically, among power-testing bodies worldwide, to assess the quality certification of power systems.
Currently, the world’s leading testing agencies including KEMA(Keuring van Elektrotechnische Materialen te Arnhem) in the Netherlands, CESI (Centro Electrotecnico Sperimentale Italiano) in Italy and KERI (Korea Electro technology Research Institute) in Korea are registered.
LSIS expects that its registration as an official testing agency will result in a dramatic time and cost reduction involved in local certification, as the performance certification by PT&T will be recognized in the same way as certification by the Malaysian power authority.
A power system must be certified by an official testing agency authorized by the local power authority in order to be sold in the Malaysian power market. When testing is conducted by a third-party testing agency, it is a lengthy process involving transportation of the product, product evaluation, and obtaining the result. LSIS expects it will be able to reduce the time by at least 6 months and reduce costs by more than KRW 1 billion.
Furthermore, it will raise public awareness of the LSIS brand and the product qualityin the local market and strengthen the market competitiveness, thereby increasing sales in the long term.
LSIS, which already has a 45% share of the low-voltage equipment market in Malaysia, plans to utilize the TNB accreditation to ensure that the quality and reliability of its power systems are officially recognized and to expand its market share based on a market specific localization strategy.
It plans to carry out aggressive marketing of high-voltage transmission and distribution units including gas insulated switchgear (GIS) to supply the full lineup from low voltage to high voltage and strengthen its market leading position.
LSIS began negotiating with TNB for its registration as an official testing agency and recognition of its test certification in October last year, and verified its testing equipment and capability to obtain the qualification as an official testing agency this November.
In January, PT&T acquired the qualification as a certified testing agency by the Association of Short-circuit Testing Authorities (ASTA), which is operated by the UK-based world-renowned testing agency Intertek, to become the first ‘Unattended Testing Agency for High-Voltage Equipment and Power Generation Units’ among domestic power equipment manufacturers and earn recognition as one of the world’s best power testing technology centers.
“This qualification recognizes PT&T’s testing evaluation capability and reliability,” Kim Yeong-Geun, head of LSIS’ PT&T, said. “Beginning with Malaysia, we will try to register our company as the official testing agency ofthe power authority of each country in SE Asia as part of a drive to expand our market presence through a localization strategy based on providing the best quality.”
