■Vice Chairman KooJa-kyun meets with high-ranking officials of Alstom at Jeju CEPSI
■ Chairman discusses technologies including newconcept of HVDC transmission systems, and eco-friendly high-voltage circuit breakers 

The negotiations between LSIS and Alstom of France concerning technical collaboration on HVDC (high voltage direct current), a next-generation power transmission technology, are currently runningvery smoothly.

LSIS, together with LS Cable and System, recently participated in the 20th CEPSI (Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry), which was hosted by the AESIEAP at the Jeju International Convention Center for five days from October 26 ? 30.

On October 27, LSIS and Alstomheld a meeting and engaged in in-depth discussion of the collaboration on HVDC technology. 

Last May, LSIS was selected as the firm to transfer technology and produce products for KAPES(KEPCO-ALSTOM Power Electronics Systems Inc.)jointly established by KEPCO and Alstom for the localization of HVDC.

At the meeting, LSIS and Alstom discussed the newconcept of transmission systems and HDVC technology and the development of eco-friendly high-voltage circuit breakers that use new eco-friendly insulation materials rather than the environmentally-hazardous SF6 gas. Attending the meeting were LSIS’s CEO and Vice Chairman Koo Ja-kyun, CTO Lee Hak-seong, and Transmission & Distribution business division Head Lee Jeong-cheol, on the one hand, and Alstom’s Asia President Michel Serra, Vice President Frederic Salon, and Korea Vice President Yang Mun-su, on the other.

Given that KEPCO and KAPES concluded an agreement to pursue the project earlier this year, LSIS has requested that the technology be transferred in a timely manner along with support for the purchase of products, so as to secure the requisite quality and cost competitiveness in the process of carrying out the project.

Furthermore, the two sides agreed to cooperate not only on the development of theexisting current-type HVDC technology but also on overall electric power fields.

As such, LSIS expects to intensify its collaboration with Alstom on the localization of HVDC technology.

LSIS has been focused on R&D aimed at securing and localizing the key HVDC technology, in particular, enabling it to acquire 79 patents at home and overseas. Meanwhile, in May, LSIS wona contract worth KRW 67.1 billion for the country’s first project to construct an HVDC electric power transmission system overland between North Dangjin and Godeok,and has embarked on various construction projects in earnest.
