LSIS has been selected for the fifth consecutive year as one of Thompson Reuters Top 100 Global Innovators alongside LG 
Electronics and Samsung Electronics, and has the honor of being the only Korean company to be listed in the newly established 
category of power.

LSIS held an award ceremony at the LS Tower in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do on November 11, after its nomination as a top 100 global
innovator by the global consultant and news agency Thomson Reuters, at which LSIS Chairman Koo Ja-kyun met Thompson
Reuters’ Korean branch manager Kim and received the Global Top 100 innovators Trophy.

At the meeting, Chairman Koo said, “We are honored to have been selected for a fifth consecutive year for inclusion in the group
of global innovators published by Thompson Reuters. We are extremely pleased to have won this recognition of our strenuous
efforts to boost our intellectual property capabilities and to innovate our corporate capacity to secure global competitiveness.”

He went on to say, “LSIS has made R&D innovation its top priority for continuous growth, and invests over 6% of its sales in R&D 
each year. In particular, IP is an important index of corporate competitiveness and innovation. As such, we intend to expand our
IP portfolios across all our business fields.”

Thompson Reuters announced the 2015 global top 100 innovators on November 12, after assessing their efforts to introduce 
innovations based on the total number of patent applications, patent registration success rate, patent influence, and so forth. 
A comparison with Morgan Stanley Capital International index (MSCI) corporations showed that the nominees have a 4.09% 
higher employment rate, a 6.01% higher sales rate, and a 1.85% higher R&D investment vs. total market valuation on average. 
Meanwhile, their efforts to enhance their IP competitiveness have led to business success, according to Thompson Reuters.

LSIS has been recognized not only for the number of patents it has acquired, i.e. quantitative expansion of patents in the IP 
category, but also for its successful patent registration rate, its rate of patent applications in four overseas regions, and its 
patent citation index, a qualitative criterion. LSIS’s success in these areas is the main factor behind its nomination as a global 
top 100 innovator.

An LSIS official said, “In the newly established category of power, only two innovators were selected, namely, the world-class 
Alstom and LSIS, thus attesting to the enhanced global profile of the LSIS brand.”

Ever since Chairman Koo took office in 2008, LSIS has endeavored not only to boost its domestic and overseas IP portfolios in
its major business areas of electric power and automation, but also to develop patents in its strategic business field of smart
energy solutions. 

In particular, in January of this year, LSIS proclaimed its new mission of “Futuring Smart Energy” (meaning ‘opening up the future 
of smart energy’), and has made a massive R&D investment in ICT, DC-based energy efficiency solutions, and smart power 
transmission and transformation technologies. Alongside these efforts, LSIS has filed 4,476 patent applications at home and 
abroad, and registered 2,254 cases of patents in the last five years alone. As such, LSIS is leading the way in revolutionizing 
the smart energy industry.

LSIS has secured a full lineup of smart solutions ranging from eco-friendly smart energy storage to the efficient use of energy. 
Notably, our Cheongju workplace and the Anyang R&D Campus have adopted the F-EMS (Factory Energy Management 
System), B-EMS (Building EMS), H-EMS(Home EMS) and other energy management systems featuring our ESS (energy storage 
systems), photovoltaic solutions, and automation solutions, thereby allowing our customers to confirm the corresponding effects 
and bolstering our efforts to commercialize them.
