■ Local businesses (Yu Eng Kao Electrical and Fuj-Haya Electrical) designated as new sales agents
■ 600 people attended the launching ceremony, including Vice Chairman Koo Ja-kyun and Filipino Department of Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho L. Petilla
■ Local power demand expected to grow by 7 - 9% a year; a foothold for making a foray into the Filipino market
LSIS (CEO: Koo Ja-kyun) said that it will make a foray into the power supply market in the Philippines, which is expected to grow by 7 - 9% over the next ten years.
LSIS designated local power system businesses Yu Eng Kao Electrical and Fuji-Haya Electrical in the said country as its official sales agents with plans to supply its power supply equipment. The Company held a ceremony for celebrating the launch of the new business in the Philippines at the Century Park Hotel Manila on June 17.
The launching ceremony was attended by 600-plus people, including Vice Chairman Koo Ja-kyun and Filipino Energy Secretary, Secretary of Energy of the Philippines Carlos Jericho L. Petilla, South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Hyuk, and VIP customers of Yu Eng Kao and Fuji-Haya. After the ceremony, the representatives of LSIS and the two new sales agents held a session for discussioning future business.
Yu Eng Kao and Fuji-Haya have been engaged in the local supply of power equipment manufactured by Fuji and Mitsubishi of Japan and GE of the United States. They have been in business with LSIS since 2011.
The Philippines has suffered a chronic lack of power supply. The electricity rates of the country are the second highest in the world only after Japan in Asia, and it is expected that the demand for power supply infrastructure will grow rapidly in future.
The Filipino government strives to improve the serious issues with power transmission lines, which link many islands and rural areas.
According to the government’s energy supply plan announced in 2004, the country’s power demand will grow 7 - 9% per year over the next decade, requiring additional power supply system amounting to 9,225MW.
Yu Eng Kao and Fuji-Haya have decided to increase the share of LSIS’s products in their lines of business based on the trust in the quality of its products.
Commenting on the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman Koo Ja-kyun said, “The Filipino power system market displays great growth potential amid the rapid increase in the power demand. We also view the country as a foothold to make a foray into the Southeast Asian markets. We will strive to enhance the status of our goods in the country in connection with our plan to expand our reach throughout that part of the world.”
Secretary of Energy of the Philippines Carlos Jericho L. Petilla said, “The Philippines currently shows signs of economic recovery. It is good to see that LSIS opened its sales agents in the country. It will go a long way in improvement our power supply. The government of the Philippines will provide positive support for private businesses engaging in power supply in an expectation that they will help solve the problem of local power shortage.”
